Description: When Church misbehaves on a drug bust it looks like his usefulness on the Undercover Squad has reached its use by date. Returning to Police Head Quarters, Angus Tufnell arrives with a phalanx of IA cops. They have received credible statements from an informant DF97 alleging corruption in the Undercover ranks. And the finger of blame points at Peter Church.

Deciding to call in on his old mate, Gray visits Tufnell who gloats about how he is finally going to nail Church. Delighting in telling his friend the gory details, Gray patiently gets what he came for, the name of informant DF 97 – Nicky Stifanich. Having heard Church’s protestations of innocence, Angie, Flynn, Chris and Gray decide to target Nicky. The surveillance seems to work when they manage to hear Nicky bragging about the untouchable cop who’s paying him for testimony. It seems that Tufnell is paying Nicky to stitch up Church.

With this evidence in hand, Angie tries to get Harris on board. But Harris isn’t buying the Tufnell theory and tells her to draw a line under the investigation. Church is going down.

Not willing to walk away from a mate in trouble, Chris plants a bug in Tufnell’s office. In a one way conversation, they overhear Tufnell sounding very much like he’s organising a drug deal. Masters brings Tufnell in for questioning. Tufnell is trying to lose weight for his wedding. The kilos they overheard him talking about moving were fat not drugs.

Undercover, Flynn makes an approach to Nicky where he listens to the Informant wax lyrical about discrediting a dirty cop. When Flynn suggests he means stitching one up but Nicky shakes his head. This cop really is corrupt and that cop is Peter Church.

With this new revelation, the Undercover cops are forced to go to Harris. Harris tasks Megan to search Church’s house. Here, she finds an emerald necklace and a wad of cash just as Church walks in on her searching his home. Apparently realising that the game is up, Church admits to Megan a full and sordid history of corruption. He asks her what she intends doing now she knows. Megan kisses him full on the mouth. “You are so lucky it’s me”.

Realising they’ll need money to escape, Church suggests ripping off the coke from the earlier bust. Megan sets up the sale of the cocaine and the plan seems all set. That is until Tufnell makes a surprise appearance at Church’s with a search warrant and finds the emerald necklace.

Arrested, Church is bailed and now desperate to get the deal done so he can skip the country with Megan. The coke deal is brought forward but brings with it another set of complications as Nicky Stiff is dragged out of the boot of the car – a loose end that needs tying up. Church baulks and pleads with Megan to walk away. But she seems to persuade Church, “it’s just business”, just as Harris and the police turn up. Megan realises Church has been wearing a wire and the whole thing has been a sting. She stares at Church in disbelief as she is arrested and taken away.

Media Release: Has Church turned corrupt? That possibility is certainly suggested in this crucial episode of the long-running undercover cop drama. What’s more, it seems that Church has found a fellow conspirator in his new lover, Det Con Megan Walsh. But is all as it seems? “This is one of those episodes where we take the audience for a ride,” Peter says.

Still no word on the future of this Melbourne-produced cop series, but tonight's episode is a good one, with Peter Church (Peter Phelps) accused of corruption and suspended from the unit. Luke Harris (Gary Sweet) isn't sure how the cards are going to fall for Church. Nor, it seems, is Sweet sure how the cards are going to fall for Stingers, with the news that he has signed to film a four-episode guest run in Blue Heelers to screen next year.
