Description: Chris, undercover with teenage burglar Slug and his mates, finds herself inadvertently involved in an assault when a householder surprises them during a burglary. Chris is knocked unconscious during the scuffle and wakes to discover that Slug got her out of there, despite protestations from his mate that they should just leave her behind.

Harris is frustrated with Chris’s inability to crack this simple case - she doesn’t even remember the whereabouts of the house. He presses her to make contact with the Fagin-like fence who is supplying these youths with drugs and shopping lists for their burglaries. Chris finally harangues Slug into letting her tag along to a meeting with the fence - Morrie Edwards - the owner of the local Mini-Mart. But Edwards is wary of Chris - who is forced to ditch her wire in a packet of sanitary napkins on the Mini-Mart shelves. As long as Chris is around, Edwards won't admit to any illegal activities and he certainly won't buy any stolen watches from Slug. Slug, annoyed, runs off. By the time Chris catches up to him it is just in time to see Slug in the distance, getting into the passenger seat of a black car and driving off. Chris asks around, but no-one has seen Slug - not until the next morning when Police haul his body from the river.

Katherine Marks investigates Slug’s murder and soon manages to put Harris off-side. Harris attempts to smooth over their professional differences take an unexpected turn when he invites Katherine out to dinner. Katherine, momentarily thrown off balance, accepts. But later, when Harris attempts to kiss Katherine, she retaliates by making a complaint of sexual harassment against him.

Chris’s investigation into Slug’s murder reveals that Slug had been sexually assaulted by a Householder whose house he’d burgled - the same house where the assault had taken place earlier. So the beating wasn't a random act of violence, but retaliation. Now, parked out the front of the house is a black car - the same one that picked up Slug the night before. The house belongs to Ian Bevan - who works in the music publishing business. But he claims he’s never met Slug - and denies any sexual assault. Without any evidence, Harris has no choice but to let Bevan go. Chris is determined to see what she can dig up while undercover, but is stopped in her tracks when she finds herself face to face with Robert Strong - an imposing hitman who warns her off investigating Bevan.

Posing as a rival hitman, Church directly approaches Strong and manages to elicit the names of the people who hired Strong - two members of the Federal Police, Pavic and Dinallo. Turns out that Bevan works as their informer and they’ve given him a green light to commit crime. In the final sting, Harris sets Pavic and Dinallo against Bevan and waits by the sidelines to pick up the pieces.

The Assistant Commissioner meanwhile, encourages Katherine to withdraw her complaint of sexual harassment against Harris. Katherine reluctantly complies, revealing to Harris the reason she hates him. He's her father and he abandoned her as a child.

Harris is poleaxed.
